Formerly dubbed the ImageNation Soul Cinema, My Image Cinema (MIC) is Harlem’s first and the nation’s only “green" movie theater dedicated to Black & Latino films. The 17,000 sq. ft. environmentally friendly facility will boast three screens, a restaurant, café/bar, post-production suite and will be the anchor tenant in the Kalahari Condominium Complex located at 40 West 116th St. MIC will offer 35mm, Beta and digital video screening platforms along with a state-of the-art sound system for live performances. This unique venue will pay homage to the intellectual and artistic excellence that blossomed during Harlem's first Renaissance, but will offer a new platform for the emerging artists of today's renaissance in Harlem.
This stylish social hub will specialize in screening independent and Hollywood movies, feature celebrated music acts and serve delicious cuisine. An amalgam of art, culture and community, MIC will also offer theater, spoken word, dance parties, director talks, community and educational events. With a support committee that includes Danny Glover, Lee Daniels, Bjork, Jonathan Demme, Damon Dash and Erykah Badu to name a few, this venue will draw patrons and bolster Harlem's social scene through unique programming and strategic marketing.
MIC is slated to open the first quarter of 2009.
